How to Make a Presentation in 10 Minutes With AI (Without It Looking Like AI)

AI presentation tools can produce a full deck from a single prompt in under a minute. The catch? Most of those decks look suspiciously alike: the same generic layouts, vague bullet points, and stock imagery that screams "auto-generated."

The good news is that AI is excellent at the slow parts of building a deck, and you can fix the rest quickly. Here's a practical 10-minute workflow that gets you a deck that looks and sounds like you made it.

Before You Start: Know What AI Is Good At

AI tools are strong at structure, first drafts, and layout suggestions. They're weak at accuracy, specific data, your brand voice, and knowing what your particular audience cares about. So the workflow below uses AI for the first draft and keeps you in charge of the message.

Minute 0–2: Write the Brief (This Is the Step Most People Skip)

The quality of the output depends almost entirely on the input. A vague prompt like "make a presentation about marketing" produces a vague deck.

Give the tool four things:

  1. Audience: who is watching and what they already know
  2. Goal: what you want them to think, feel, or do afterward
  3. Length: the number of slides or minutes
  4. Tone: formal, friendly, persuasive, technical

Example prompt:

"Create an 8-slide presentation for a team of non-technical managers explaining why we should adopt a new project management tool. Goal: get approval for a trial. Tone: clear and persuasive, no jargon. Include one slide on risks."

If you have source material, such as a report or notes, paste it in or upload it so the AI works from your real content instead of inventing generic points.

Minute 2–4: Generate and Review the Outline First

Before letting the tool design anything, review the outline. Check:

  • Does each slide have one clear idea?
  • Is the order logical for your audience?
  • Is anything missing that you know matters?
  • Is anything included that doesn't belong?

Fixing the structure now is much faster than fixing it after the slides are designed.

Minute 4–6: Rewrite the Headlines

AI headlines tend to be labels ("Benefits of the Tool"). Rewrite them as takeaways ("The Tool Cuts Weekly Status Meetings by Half" is only usable if it's true, so use your real numbers).

This single edit does more to make a deck feel human than anything else, because headlines are the most-read element on every slide.

Minute 6–8: Cut the Text and Verify the Facts

AI-generated slides are usually too wordy. Go through each slide and:

  • Delete sentences, keep short phrases
  • Move detailed explanation to speaker notes
  • Check every number, claim, and name. AI can state incorrect information confidently, so treat every fact as unverified until you've confirmed it.

Minute 8–10: Make It Look Like Yours

This is what stops the "AI look":

  • Apply your brand colors and fonts (or choose one accent color and two fonts and use them consistently)
  • Replace generic stock images with real screenshots, product photos, or simple icons
  • Use one consistent layout style instead of the tool's mix of templates
  • Add white space by removing elements until each slide has one clear focus

Signs Your Deck Still Looks AI-Generated

  • Every slide has the same three-bullet structure
  • Headlines are topics, not takeaways
  • Images are glossy, generic stock scenes
  • Phrases like "in today's fast-paced world" or "unlock the power of" appear anywhere
  • No specific numbers, names, or examples from your real situation

If you spot these, replace them with something only you would know: a real customer story, an actual figure from your team, a specific example.

A Note on Honesty and Ownership

Whatever tool you use, you're the one presenting, so you're the one accountable for what's on the slides. Check facts, make sure images are licensed for your use, and follow your workplace or school's rules on AI-assisted work.

Bringing It All Together

AI can take you from blank page to working draft in minutes, but it can't decide what your audience needs to hear. Spend your saved time on the parts only you can do: sharpening the message, verifying the facts, and giving the deck a point of view. That's the difference between a deck that looks generated and one that looks considered.
